A tennis facility impressive enough to host the 2018 and 2019 Sarasota Open, the Laurel Oak Tennis Center boasts 12 Har-Tru courts (all are lighted for evening play), plus programs for adults and kids, clinics and instruction from world-class pros.

Adult Tennis Programs

There is always a game available for your level of play; from entry level to USTA 4.5 ratings.

  • Bi-weekly Friday night mixers followed by dinner at the Club
  • Weekly clinics for men and women
  • League play for the more competitive players
  • Private and group lessons are available from our USPTA Professionals
  • Monthly Pro Exhibitions are popular on Friday nights from November to May – all Laurel Oak Members are invited to spectate.

Junior Tennis Programs

With over 250 children under 21 years of age as part of the Membership at Laurel Oak Country Club, we offer programs designed especially for the kids.

Beginner Junior Clinic ages 5-7 years old
Monday and Wednesdays 4-5 pm
Saturdays 9-10 am

Intermediate Junior Clinic ages 8 and up
Monday and Wednesday 5-6 pm
Saturdays 10-11 am

Cardio Tennis

This will get you moving around!! The Cardio Tennis Fitness Program has Members participate in drills and games that elevate heart rates and hones coordination. This is a conditioning program on the tennis court with a racket, running, jumping, playing and no serving is required.

  • Available to all Laurel Oak Members
  • No tennis skills required
  • Monday / Wednesday / Friday 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Meet The Tennis Team

 

  • Ty Braswell

    Ty Braswell

    USPTA

    Ty has been the Director of Tennis at Laurel Oak Country Club since June of 2005. Ty attended FSU on a full tennis scholarship and played #1 singles and doubles for the Seminoles. As a junior player, Ty was ranked as high as #1 in Florida and #5 in the country in the Boys 18s division. Before coming to Laurel Oak, Ty was the Asst. Men’s Tennis Coach at FSU. During his time there, he was named the 2003 Regional ITA Asst. Coach of the Year and coached three-time ACC Player of the Year, Mat Cloer. Ty was the 2017 USPTA District Pro of the Year Florida Division. Ty and his wife Anna have 4 children, Micah, Jonah, Jeremiah. And Rebekah.

  • Steve Martin

    Steve Martin

    USPTA

    Steve is the Head Tennis Pro and has been teaching tennis at Laurel Oak since 2001. Prior to Laurel Oak, Steve spent five years working with Peter Burwash International, the leading tennis management company in the world. Steve has had the privilege of teaching tennis in such countries as Austria, Italy, Switzerland and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. In addition to tennis, Steve is a certified Boxing Trainer and is also a certified Speed and Agility trainer. Steve is married and he and his wife Heather have a son named Eli.

  • Michael Moore

    Michael Moore

    USPTA

    Michael joined the Laurel Oak family in fall 2019. Born and raised in Sarasota, FL, he won the HT Preps Player of the Year in 2014 and achieved a singles ranking in the Top 20 in the State of Florida. Michael combined technique and footwork using teaching aids and neuromuscular pathways to improve as fast as possible. He enjoys working with all levels of players and it’s been a dream come true to join the Laurel Oak family. He also coaches the Riverview High School Tennis Team with his mom. He is married to his wife, Sarah and has a son named Kai

  • Nick Gutsche

    Nick Gutsche

    Tennis Pro

    Nick started teaching with us at Laurel Oak this summer. He did an amazing job as a leader with our summer camp. He grew up playing tennis at various clubs around Sarasota including at Laurel Oak. Nick was one of the top juniors in Florida and played high school tennis at Sarasota High where he led his team to the state tournament. He attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where he played on the varsity tennis team all four years. Nick is a very gifted player and an even better teacher.

  • David Brumby

    David Brumby

    Tennis Pro

    David Brumby was born and raised in Sarasota, FL. He played many different sports growing up including baseball, soccer, and golf, but his first love was tennis. He played in high school at Laurel Oak under Ty Braswell. He attended Palm Beach Atlantic University where he could have played tennis but didn’t due to his heavy academic load. While there, he did take home the intramural softball and table tennis championships. After moving back to Sarasota in 2016, he has played on many local USTA teams, making the finals of the state championships at the USTA national center multiple times. His coaching passions are improving through proper technique. He’s happily married to the Pickleball Director, Abigail.
